Ministry of Power and Energy is to band using bulbs exceeding 75 watts in domestic consumption as a measure of saving electricity.

Accordingly new regulations will soon be gazetted. The government has to spend large sum of money to generate power by diesel plants due to soaring prices of crude oil. There fore the ministry requests the domestic consumers to save power by using low wattage bulbs.

Meanwhile Sixty Eight small power plants are to be built. They are estimated to generate nearly 100 megawatts of electricity utilising small waterfalls and water sources. The Electricity Board has granted approval for several private companies to implement these projects. These plants will provide electricity to rural areas. At present there are 98 small power plants generating around 114 megawatts of electricity.
