Clashes in the North Sea

More than 30 LTTE boats entered the Northern Sea Area with the intention of attacking the navy. Clashes broke out between the navy and the LTTE at about 15 sea miles South East of Point Pedro. Due to these clashes the passenger ship which was on its way to from Jaffna to Trincomalee was turned back to Jaffna with the navy escort and the ship reached Kankesanthurai Port safely.
Although there was heavy fighting between the navy and the LTTE, details of the causalities are not known, said the security sources.
